Tanzanian musician Vanessa Mdee, who is currently based in the US, recently opened up about her postpartum depression. 


The star took to her Instagram page to share a video with her fans to discuss her depression following the birth of her and, Nigerian-American R&B singer, Rotimi’s firstborn son by the name Seven Akinosho. The couple welcomed their baby boy to the world in September last year and it seems Vanessa had been suffering in silence.


Postpartum depression, as the name suggests, is a type of depression that occurs for some mothers after childbirth. In her video, Vanessa noted that a lot of people don’t know the struggles of being a new mother and the challenges that come with being depressed postpartum. She further noted that even with the support of a supportive partner it is sometimes still hard to deal with the issue.

Vanessa noted that she wanted to share her journey with other mothers in a bid to create awareness of this issue that plagues so many mothers and leaves a number of them suffering in silence. In her caption, she noted that she wanted to help end the stigma that surrounds postpartum depression.

Many celebrities, and fans alike, took to her comment section to sympathise with the singer as they consoled her and noted that it had taken a lot of bravery to share her story with the world. 


This move by Vanessa is in line with a recent announcement she and her husband Rotimi made. The couple announced that they had launched a wellness application. According to the two the of new app, which is called forthebetter.me, is a subscription-based service that would let subscribers get exclusive access to their life, personalised videos, and exclusive merchandise. 


The pair have a very good story of how their relationship started. So it would be good to get some insight into how they got there. Vanessa and Rotimi began dating in 2020 and were married in 2021. She moved to the United States to live with the 'In My Bed' hitmaker during this time. Vanessa would subsequently reveal that she had taken a vacation from the music industry, emphasizing how toxic it can be.
