Emma Too, a former beauty queen who is now a landscape architect, has taken to Twitter to voice her displeasure with a posh bar and restaurant located in the affluent side of Kilimani, Nairobi.
The establishment in question, known as Samaki Samaki, has been accused by Ms. Too of failing to uphold their end of the bargain by playing loud music that is disturbing her peace and inhibiting her from getting a good night's sleep.
This is not the first time that Ms. Too has raised the issue, as she had complained about it last year as well.
Today we won’t sleep! The neighborhood nuisance has decided we must listen to music all night! Sometimes I wish I had special powers I could use badly for the common good like send lightening to strike their music equipments! I’m honestly getting exhausted! @SakajaJohnson Boss🙏🏽
In her latest tweets, she called upon the Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) to take swift action against the establishment.
In her tweets, Ms. Too shared videos from inside her house, where the loud music from Samaki Samaki could be heard inside her living space. She called for the establishment to turn off their music by 10 pm or move out of the residential neighbourhood altogether. Ms. Too's complaint has sparked a debate on social media, with some supporting her call for action, while others are defending the bar and restaurant's right to play music late into the night.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of noise pollution in urban areas, particularly in residential neighbourhoods. While businesses have the right to play music and operate late into the night, they also have a responsibility to ensure that they do not disturb the peace of their neighbours.
However, the bar and restaurant have come under fire recently, following complaints from former beauty queen and landscape architect Emma Too. Ms. Too has accused the establishment of failing to uphold their end of the bargain by playing loud music that is disturbing her peace and inhibiting her from getting a good night's sleep.
Trevor Ombija has not publicly responded to Ms. Too's complaint. Nonetheless, the incident has sparked a debate on social media, with some defending the bar and restaurant's right to play music late into the night and others calling for action to be taken against the establishment.
