Wealthy businessman, Capital FM boss and part-time DJ, Chris Kirubi is a man hurting. Not just physically with his unfortunate health issues, but also in the pocket. His company Centum just posted a massive Ksh 2 billion loss in only 6 months!

The 79-year-old divorcee, a life-long bachelor who refuses to marry, and only recently told the Churchill Show that marriage is a "life sentence", has been wedded to his numerous business interests. But it looks like even his business life is also divorcing him.

DJ CK, as he likes to be called when he goes to play music in his own personal radio station Capital FM, would have been left scratching his head last Friday (November 27) when his Centum CEO James Mworia walked into his lavish penthouse apartment on the top floor of International Life House to show him the huge 2 billion shilling dent in his account.

The American stock exchange Nasdaq announced that Kenya's Centum Investment Company had swung into a Ksh 2.05 billion ($18.67 million) pretax loss in the first half of 2020, from a Ksh 7.72 billion profit in the same period of 2019.

The reason for the huge loss is down to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kirubi is a renowned wheeler and dealer since the days of President Daniel Arap Moi in the 1980's. CK owns a majority stake of Centum and is also currently the Chairman of other companies like HACO Industries, Coca-Cola Nairobi Bottlers, DHL Express, Capital Media Group, International House Limited, and many more.

Lately, his radio station Capital FM has been going through tough times. The troubled station has witnessed an exodus of talent with star voices like Amina Abdi, Anita Nderu, Anne Mwaura, Sharon Mundia and many more, all leaving their Capital FM jobs in the past year.
