Following a recent announcement by Kenya Education CS George Magoha, noting that gay children should not attend boarding schools and should instead be restricted to day schooling, the LGBT community in Kenya has been up in arms.
One of the biggest and most famous LGBT activists in the country, Makena Njeri organised a march that was attended by allies and members of the community. The CEO & Founder of Bold Network Africa noted that the march was geared towards handing over a petition to the CS over his remarks.
Upon posting the petition on her page, a number of celebrities reshared it on their pages in a show of solidarity, among them were Sauti Sol members, Bien and Chimano. The two celebs stood out for specific reasons.
For Chimano, it is the fact that he came out publicly as a member of the community recently. The star shared the personal news with Mpasho whereby he noted that he was gay. The star shared the petition on his page and noted that:
β Our rights are human rights. We're here, always been here, we'll stay being here!β
On Bienβs part, his message also comes from a personal place as his wife Chiki Kuruka is a major ally to the community and the couple is very good friends with Makena Njeri as they often post pictures on social media together. The star also reshared the petition on his page and noted that:
Makena noted that the comments they have been receiving since the march has been generally positive. Their company Bold Network Africa is a movement for advocacy and rights for LGBT.
