Maina Olwenya's Cause Of Death Finally Revealed

The family of celebrated Kenyan actor Wilfred Maina Olwenya, who was famed for his role as Oti in the award-winning movie Nairobi Half Life, has finally revealed what caused his death.

In a statement that was released on Wednesday, Olwenya's family divulged that he succumbed to death due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

"His sudden death was caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. In simple terms, there was reduced blood supply to the heart due to a heart disease that might have resulted to heart failure," the statement read.

According to Google, most people who have the condition don't show any symptoms and experience no significant problems. However, for some it can cause shortness of breath, chest pain and abnormal heart rhythms.

Further, the Olwenya's family noted that the burial preparations are in top gear and they will communicate the details at a later date.

They have set up a crowd funding account on M-Changa where they are seeking to raise KSh 1 million to give the talented thespian a decent send-off and clear his hospital bills.

So far, the family has raised KSh 19,930 and have asking his fans, friends and acquaintances to donate what they can.

Olwenya has been mourned by scores of Kenyans who hailed him as a talented actor who flew Kenya's flag high. Many people termed his death as a big loss to the industry and thanked him for his contribution over the years.

The actor who featured in popular local productions such as Poacher, Fifth Estate, Mali, Stories Of Our Lives, Pendo, Taliya, just to name a few was also mourned by his by his colleagues at Radio Africa Limited where he worked as a voice over artist.

Led by Classic 105 presenter Maina Kageni, his work mates described him as a talented actor who had a great voice.

"We'll miss you here at Radio Africa. Among the very best voices in East Africa. Great actor, superb talent! Recalling your outstanding role in the movie Nairobi Half-life. what a game-changer you were, big boss!!! Thanks for everything," he tweeted.
"He had a good voice. His voice was everything. To be honest, he had a good soul," the head of production at Radio Africa eulogized the actor.

Olwenya won several accolades during his career including the Best Actor award at the Sanaa Theatre Awards in 2016. 

He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
