Wishing Bobi Wine a Happy Birthday

Today this iconic man turns 39 years old. From singer and actor to activist and politician, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine is a Ugandan Superman. Having supported several projects to enhance the conditions of the poor, he has also been made ambassador for Save the Children’s EVERY ONE campaign. With several accolades under his belt, there’s a lot unfolding in this politician’s life at the moment. Let us look at his year gone by.

He announced that he had joined the National Unity Platform
Bobi made this announcement on July 22 2020, becoming elected its president and presidential Flag bearer for the upcoming February 2021 general election. This sparked antipathy from the Ugandan Military and current president.

He was soon arrested
The musician turned presidential candidate has been arrested several times over the course of his political career. Recently he was brutally arrested in the Iganga district. He, his wife and child are currently under house arrest.
Bobi has made statements about his arrest on Twitter.


He marked his wedding anniversary with wife Barbie Kyagulayni by posting a heartfelt post on twitter.
The activist posted a photograph of his father presenting him with a ring of promise in the dressing room on his wedding day and quoted him in the captions where he then wished his wife a happy anniversary.


His social media accounts were ordered to be blocked by the state during the course of the elections


The state asked google to block the pop star’s Youtube accounts in light of the elections. The legislator holds his addresses online because all media houses in Uganda were instructed not broadcast any Bobi wine related content that would  shame the regime, No media house exposed the real brutality that took place during the riots when Bobi wine was arrested in Luuka. He has also on several occasions been blocked from speaking on some radio stations.

He has been leading a campaign against President Museveni and the response across Uganda is huge. 
The activist’s supporters gathered in thousands to rally against corruption existing in the current government. Despite several obtrusions by state police, the star turned politician continues his campaign while documenting it on his twitter.

This past year has been an eventful one for Bobi with many ups and downs. In his fight against dictatorship and corruption, he is constantly thrown challenge after challenge. The fight isn’t over yet, however, and hopefully this next year he will have a breakthrough!
