Janet Mbugua's ex husband Eddie Ndichu is a lucky man. Yesterday, he and his twin brother Paul had their assault charges dropped after a nationally televised scandal where they were caught on CCTV footage allegedly beating up two sisters at a Nairobi hotel.
Eddie and his brothers were obliged to make a public apology before the charges were dropped; “We have since taken time to introspect and self-reflect," read part of the statement.
And while they may be free men, the Ndichu twins will still have to start over from scratch after losing their Wapi Pay business, and in the case of Eddie, his wife Janet Mbugua. Even before the assault scandal, the two shared a tumultuous marriage rife with cheating and physical altercations.
According to sources close to the former Citizen TV news anchor, Ndichu developed a long-term cheating habit in the early stages of their relationship before quickly becoming a full-fledged womanizer. He was still rumoured to be cheating on Janet with various women while she was pregnant with their second child. According to Janet's close friend who spoke to blogger Edgar Obare, Janet allegedly returned home early from work and found Eddie on top of a campus girl in their matrimonial bed.
The assault charges and the ensuing media circus around it seemed to be the final straw for Janet. In May, gossip site Mpasho reported that Janet had begun divorce proceedings.
So how did Janet react to the news of Eddie's charges getting dropped yesterday? Well she totally ignored the news and kept busy with her newfound advocacy passion.
Between the time of the news of the Ndichu's charges being dropped, and now, Janet has escaped all mentions of the case and instead promoted an upcoming fundraiser to refurbish old libraries that she will be hosting.
Together they have two sons, Ethan Huru Ndichu born in October 2015 and Mali Ndichu. In 2019, Janet released her first book, ‘My First Time’, a collection of short stories from women, girls and men on their first interaction with menstruation.
