Popular secular artiste, Kelvin Kioko alias Bahati, has wowed netizens with his fluent Kikuyu in his latest song featuring the queen of Mugiithi Joyce Wa Mamaa.
The song was released today and has received over 59k views on YouTube in just three hours. The video appears to have been shot in a rural area; Bahati introduces the song with a Kikuyu verse; and netizens cannot keep calm.
Bahati recently disclosed that he has many songs that he wishes to release. Last week on his social media, Bahati made it known that in his absence after he lost the elections, he had spent two weeks prepping his 2023 music.
Since then, all the songs he has released have been hits, from 'Abebo' to 'Mhesh'. His music career appears to have taken a new turn for the better, especially now that his wife Diana is involved, the two collaborated to remix the 'Mambo Ya Mhesh' song.
He has also been collaborating with popular artists like Prince Indah for the second time, their song 'My Abebo' has hit over 3.5 million views on Youtube barely a month after its release, and the duo's first song, 'Adhiambo' featuring Jalas and Babu Owino has over 20 million views on Youtube as well.
In Abebo, which is a Luo slang word for 'Babe', Bahati exercises his Dholuo as he sings some lines of his lyrics in the lakeside accent. And fans in the comments section have been impressed with his efforts to go all out for this collaboration.
"I can't believe how Bahati can sing fluently in Luo. He must take time to learn that 👏," one fan commented in praise. "I just love the other language which is not English or Swahili, the base is like a melody from Prince Indah, even the piece where the two artists are speaking the language it's so supper," said another fan.
Before the end of 2022, Bahati made a huge announcement that he had a breakthrough and had secured a collaboration with American rapper Cardi B.
This is the first time he has collaborated with Kikuyu artist, Joyce Wa Mamaa, Kenyans and the entire globe are familiar with Joyce, she is well-liked for her sassy, razor-sharp voice and her music. She travels a lot across the world for her Mugithi tour, which might help Bahati start performing internationally.
Their song has been received well, especially by Joyce Wa Mama's supporters, Bahati has been praised for his fluent Kikuyu.
