Samidoh has cemented his name amongst the best Kikuyu benga musicians of his time. But one thing he’ll tell you is that success does not happen overnight. If there is anything that you can take away from Samidoh’s life history, it’s that. He has worked tirelessly to achieve the enviable lifestyle he has now. Coming from a humble background, here’s how Samidoh made a name for himself.
Samidoh, age 31, is a musician and songwriter. Born Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, the rising star hails from Subukia, Nakuru county. The former Administration Police officer turned Benga musician comes from a humble background. Samidoh’s family comprises of six boys. He is the third born. His parents are deceased.
When Samidoh was only three, his father, Michael Ndirangu, an Administration Police Officer, was killed in action during tribal clashes that had rocked the country. Soon after, the family was kicked out of their Subukia home by their extended family, forcing the family to relocate to Oljororok in Nyandarua county.
His mother, Miriam Wairimu passed away later when the singer was in form two. Samidoh’s brothers and him became orphaned.
“I was born in a family of six boys. I’m the third born. My mother was called Miriam Wairimu but she passed away. My father's name is Michael Ndirangu. He was an Administration Police (AP) Officer. He worked in Nakuru and Molo. He died during the clashes. Whenever I hear about the clashes, I feel sick to the stomach because it left me without a father." Samidoh said.
Schooling
For his early childhood education, Samidoh joined Oljororok Primary School where he schooled until class seven. He then had to abruptly drop out due to his father’s death. This forced him into doing menial jobs so as to complement his mother’s income and to help put food on the table for the family.
He was later fortunate to join Kieni Primary School where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K.C.P.E) exams. After completion of his primary studies, he then joined Kieni Secondary School around 2004. However, he was forced to transfer back to his home school Oljororok Secondary School in Oljororok so as to be near his then ailing mother. Barely two weeks after the transfer, his mother passed on, leaving him and his brothers devastated and orphaned.
"I was the top student in K.C.P.E in my year... I joined Kieni Secondary School even though I received a letter to join Jomo Kenyatta. For some reason, I didn't open the letter because I didn't have any hope that I'd go to High School.
By the end of the second term, mom got sick. I couldn't bring myself to ask for anything from her because she didn't have anything to offer. I went back to Nyandarua to care for her. Two weeks after joining a school there, she passed away. From then on, I survived through well-wishers assistance." Samidoh
In 2011, Samidoh would join Kenya Polytechnic University to pursue a Diploma course in Business Information Technology before joining the Administration Police after his studies.
Samidoh's success did not happen overnight. As a matter of fact, his passion for music started while still in secondary school. He used to sing in the school choir and was even part of the Christian Union worship team.
After finishing high school, he moved to Nairobi City with the vision of kick-starting his music career. It was not long before he joined Kamande Wa Kioi’s band as a back-up vocalist. Samidoh’s elder brother known by his stage name Kariz Magic was also a drummer in the band.
After a two year stint with the band, Samidoh saw it fit to spread his wings and pursue a solo career. In 2016, he released debut singles, “Wendo Maguta and Ndiri Mutwe Mwega”, and as they say, the rest is history.
“Most people came to know me in 2016 after I released my first collection ‘Ndiri Mutwe Mwega’. In any case, I have actually been in and out of this industry since 2009 after I finished my secondary school the previous year,” He shared during a previous interview. He was alluding to the fact that his rise to fame was not ‘sudden’ as people thought. Rather, it was marred with ups and downs along the way.
When Samidoh is not singing to his avid fans, he serves as an Administration police officer. He joined the force in 2013 after several failed attempts and eventually graduated from the police academy in 2014. For his first assignment, he was posted in Nairobi’s Eastleigh.
He was later transferred to Dadaab in Garissa County, where he worked for six years. It was while there that he got to write most of the songs that we hear today. As per the latest reports, he is now posted in Athi River, Machakos County.
To date, the singer has released a myriad of songs, which include;
Ndiri Mutwe Mwega
Ihoya Ria Samidoh
Kairitu Gakwa
Niwe Ndarathimiirwo
Tuhii Twitu

Who is Samidoh’s second wife?
Samidoh does not have a second wife. He was caught in a scandal in which he impregnated popular city politician Karen Nyamu. The pair have two children together. News about his affair with Nyamu was conicidentally sparked by a picture that she posted on Instagram. “A dad doesn’t tell you that he loves you, he shows you #muchokis.”
Confronting the allegations, Samidoh admitted to having a “friendship” with Nyamu. He also pledged to support his child. In the same breathe, he cleared the air over his priorities. Samidoh made it known that he will be sticking to his first family.
“... I have never left my wife for 11 years for another woman. I apologised to my to her and my family before.”
At the same time, Nyamu rubbished claims that she wanted to be Samidoh’s second wife. In fact, she says that she doesn’t believe in marriage.
Samidoh’s seemingly perfect and drama-free life was rocked with drama and controversy after it was revealed that he had sired a child outside his marriage with a popular city politician.
Karen Nyamu went public with the news with the aim of fighting for her son’s identity. Samidoh publicly took responsibility for his actions which included a similarly public apology to his wife for his actions. He also vowed to support his child with Nyamu.
In the wake of the incident, Karen Nyamu apologised to Samidoh’s wife, Edith, citing that she thought she knew about the child. This is when she found out that Samidoh had kept his wife in the dark about the matter.
“I’m really sorry for the anguish that I may have caused you, all along I thought you knew because your Husband told me you knew. No excuses, I am really sorry for everything,” she went on to say.
Assault Accusations
Karen Nyamu accused Samidoh of assault. She revealed the details during an Instagram live session. At the time, she was three months pregnant with his child. Nyamu even showed her broken iPhone ProMax 12 as proof that the altercation happened. She also says her hair was pulled out and the musician threatened to kill her. All this she said, was done out of jealousy. Samidoh was told that Karen Nyamu was in Mombasa in the company of another man. She admits she was in Mombasa but on business. The lawyer vowed to take action against Samidoh. That is yet to happen.
Samidoh’s car is a crossover Toyota Harrier SUV which is estimated to be between Ksh. 2-5 million.
According to an interview done with a local television station in 2019 in Samidoh’s house, the Benga musician lives in Kahawa West.
