Controversy

Defending gengetone

If there’s one person who knows and understands the ins and outs of the local music industry, it is Jua Cali which is why his voice in the gengetone debate is very important. At a time when Kenyans were divided over the new music genre, gengetone, he threw his support behind its artists as he said that it’s unique and resonates with young people as it touches on issues that are important to them. He also said that he is happy to be an inspiration to the upcoming artists.

War of words

Jua Cali had a Twiff with rapper Wakadinali after he opined that they couldn’t match his level. This was after a tweep asked him to have a rap battle with Wakadinali following a post in which he said he was snubbed by a top artist. Wakadinali did not take his words lightly and called him an old artiste. Netizens were divided over the issue as some stated that Wakadinali should respect Jua Cali as he is an industry veteran whilst others were of the opnion that Jua Cali should write off the group.
