“Dj Joe Mfalme”, whose real name is Joseph Mwenda, is a Kenyan professional Disk Jockey, radio host and MC. Dj Joe was born in Maua, Meru County in Kenya on 9th December 1987. He is 34 years old. Schooling

Dj Joe attended Consolata Primary School. For his secondary school education, he went to Moi Forces Academy. Shang Tao Media Arts College in Nairobi was his next stop. 

He earned a Higher Diploma in 3D Animation Arts and Music Production. His parents wanted him to pursue law after he scored a straight A in his high school national examinations.

Career

Dj Joe Mfalme’s interest in becoming a disc jockey began at the age of 13 while listening to some of Kenya's pioneer DJs. DJ Pinye, who was at the pinnacle of his career, particularly appealed to him. 

Along with that, Dj Joe Mfalme spent a huge amount of time listening to other international DJs. 

He often replicated the sound and feel of the music, as he experimented with his own deejaying techniques. He did this frequently until he was able to craft his own distinct sound and flow.

After continuous practise, he finally got his breakthrough in 2008 during the Pilsner Mfalme DJing competition where he took the first runner-up position. 

At the time, he was known as Dj Joe and it was after people saw his skills at the competition that the name “Mfalme” stuck thus, Dj Joe Mfalme. The competition brought out his top skills and helped kick-start his illustrious career. 

This primed him for even bigger things. Popular radio station Capital FM absorbed Mfalme and offered him a full-time contract. 

He featured in some of the station's popular shows like the MidMorning party and Radioactive Mix that aired on Wednesday morning and afternoon respectively, Take Over Thursdays on Thursday nights and The Heats on Friday night. 

He left Capital FM after 12 years. Shortly afterwards, he joined Radio Africa's Homeboyz Radio. His stint at Homeboyz came to a crashing end. 

He was part of the morning show, Lift Off, alongside seasoned radio presenter Shaffie Weru and the little unknown Neville Muysa, that was sacked after some insensitive remarks about a woman who had been pushed from a building by a man. Their comments were deemed to glorify gender-based violence.

DJ Joe Mfalme is also a TV DJ. He had a show on K24, The Rave for two years until it went off the air. Currently, he lends his mixing talents to The Turn Up, a TV show on Maisha Magic East, that airs on Saturdays, hosted by the ever-elegant Amina Abdi Rabar.

Besides radio, DJ Joe runs his own company, DJ Joe Mfalme, which he named after himself. It offers a broad scope of entertainment options like DJ services for corporate events, family celebrations, gigs, digital marketing, and photography among other services.
